LOCATED IN THE SNUG TIERS NATURE RECREATION AREA
Snug Falls is an impressive 25-30m waterfall near the township of Snug.
The walking track is just over an hour return from the parking bay just off an unsealed access road. The track is all downhill on the way to the falls and all uphill on the way back. The footing is a little rocky and uneven in places but generally quite easy walking.
The township of Snug is about 25 kilometres from Hobart. When you are almost to the centre of the Snug Township, Snug Tiers Road heads off to the west (the primary school is on the corner) follow road about 4km, take care as the road is narrow in places. When you reach the fork in the road, take the road to the left this is the Snug Falls Road – follow this along until you see the parking bay. There is limited parking at the start of the track.
The walk itself is an easy grade walk taking you to the classic Snug Falls just 1km, 45-60 minutes return. The track can be slippery underfoot when wet. The falls are particularly spectacular after rain. The return leg can be broken by a rest on the wooden bench seats provided along the track. There is no drinking water available along the track so be sure to take some in your backpack.
Dogs are allowed on their lead.
Keep a look out for the native orchids during spring and summer. You may see crescent and yellow-throated honeyeaters, eastern spinebills, strong-billed honeyeaters and even pink robins on the forest floor. The walk takes you through dry sclerophyll forest and further down into the gully the vegetation is more like rainforest with ferns and mosses covering rocks and small caves.
