Huon Valley Team Testimonials
Louise - Food, shopping and maybe a walk
One of my favourite ways of spending a day in the Huon Valley is to grab a friend and visit one of the lovely towns for a scrumptious lunch and a little retail therapy...
Cygnet is a quirky little town that has a lot to offer and one of my favourite destinations; great cafes for luch offering loads of fresh local produce on their menus; beautiful little shops full of both locally made items and brilliant gift ideas. Oh and chocolate...Everything is located pretty much in the main street and you can just park your car and wander. There's also a lovely walk at the lower end of the town at Burton's Reserve which finishes the day off nicely.
Geeveston is close to my heart as it is where I grew up; I still live nearby. It is a compact township with some nice options for lunch within walking distance of the central car park. There are some interesting shops to wander around; some offering the added opportunity to watch the artisans or makers at work. For history buffs a visit to the Forest and Heritage Centre is a must as well. Oh and lollies...You can wander along the Platypus walking track which winds through Heritage Park and along the Kermandie Rivulet. As you can probaly tell from it's name there are resident platypus in the rivulet - it's fun to stop at the viewing platform for awhile and see if you can spot one. I always pause for a moment at the Tasmanian Forest Memorial built to commemorate those that have lost their lives whist working in the forest industry.
Wherever you go in the Huon Valley you will find friendly, happy and creative people. Something that I think makes the Huon Valley one of the most beautiful places in Tasmania.
